NIKOLAY SAVCHUK, Ph.D. President & CEO
Prior to joining ChemDiv, Dr. Savchuk held various business and research management positions in the IT industry with companies in Singapore and Russia. Since joining the company he has held positions of increasing responsibility including Director of Information Technologies, and Director and Vice President of Business Development. Dr. Savchuk has a PhD in Physics and Mathematics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He is the author of over 60 scientific papers.
ALEXANDER IVACHTCHENKO, Prof., DSc. Chief Scientific Officer, Founder
Professor Ivachtchenko is the founder of ChemDiv, Chief Scientific Officer and the founding member of the Scientific Advisory Board. He is the recipient of multiple European awards in the field of heterocyclic chemistry and has earned the prestigious title of Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation. Professor Ivachtchenko has a PhD in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemical Industry, and a DSc in Chemistry from Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology. He is the author of four textbooks, 173 scientific papers and 141 patent applications.
RONALD DEMUTH, B.S., C.R.A. Senior VP, Corporate Development & General Manager
Prior to joining ChemDiv, Mr. Demuth held the positions of General Manager at Integrated Genomics. He has a long track record in the management of new ventures including holding the position of CEO of Cerulean Enterprises. Mr. Demuth has a BSc in Psychology from the University of Iowa and was a co-founder of the internationally-recognized Chicago Teacher Academy for Mathematics and Science with the Nobel Laureate Physicist, Leon Lederman. He is the author of 13 scientific papers.
MICHAEL G. PALFREYMAN, Ph.D., D.Sc., MRPharmS. Head, Translational R&D
Michael G. Palfreyman is a seasoned leader in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries with over 35 years experience. He has been an invited speaker and chairperson for a number of international and national conferences, is co-inventor on 35 issued US patents, 3 pending patents and co-author of over 150 scientific articles and book chapters. Dr. Palfreyman also serves as a Senior Scientific Advisor for Vitruvean, Inc.
Previously, Michael was VP, Program Management & Product Development at EnVivo Pharmaceuticals where he was responsible for the late stage discovery and preclinical development of two CNS drugs now demonstrating efficacy in clinical testing. As a co-founder NOVACE Corporation, Michael worked closely with Investors and Biotechnology Companies to bring products from discovery through to the value point of clinical validation.
Before joining NOVACE, Michael held a number of executive positions at Psychiatric Genomics, Scriptgen (Anadys) Pharmaceuticals as well as Marion Merrell Dow Research Institute (Sanofi-Aventis). In addition to overseeing research programs in Psychiatric, Neurological, Cardiovascular, Cancer, Infectious, Metabolic and Respiratory Disorders, Dr. Palfreyman's own research included discovery and development of a number of psychotherapeutic compounds for treatment of psychosis, depression, stroke, epilepsy, emesis, Parkinsons, and Alzheimers diseases. Many of these compounds have entered clinical development and a number have reached the marketplace.
ILYA OKUN, Ph.D. Vice President, Biology and CTO
Prior to joining ChemDiv, Dr. Okun was a co-founder of Axiom Biotechnologies and a primary inventor of the company's technological platform for high-definition, cell-based pharmacological assays. He has a long track record in the management of enabling research and development platforms. Dr. Okun has a PhD from the Belarus Academy of Sciences. He is the author of over 100 scientific publications and 7 US patents.
VADIM BICHKO, Ph.D. Vice President, Virology
Dr. Bichko is a virologist with 15 years of successful research and development management experience in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Prior to joining ChemDiv, he was Director of Research at Idenix Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the discovery and development of drugs for the treatment of human viral infectious diseases. Prior to that, he was a leading virology researcher at Scriptgen (Anadys) Pharmaceuticals and previously held various academic positions at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Max-Plank Institute for Biochemistry in Munich, Germany and the Institute of Organic Synthesis in Riga, Latvia. Dr. Bichko has a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Latvia in Riga, Latvia. He is the author of numerous publications and patents in molecular virology.
SERGEY TKACHENKO, Ph.D. Senior Director, Medicinal Chemistry
Sergey Tkachenko has 30 plus years experience in chemistry and CNS drug discovery. During his impressive academic career he was a senior investigator in Medicinal Chemistry, Organic chemistry, Combinatorial chemistry, and Radiochemistry research projects focused on central nervous system diseases. Professor Tkachenko is a co-inventor of the novel drug Dimebon for the treatment of Alzheimer Disease (patented in US and Europe). Since 2002 Prof. Tkachenko has served as the Senior Director of Medicinal Chemistry at ChemDiv, Inc. From 2003 to present, Professor Tkachenko has actively collaborated on a number of Drug Discovery programs with the Russian Academies of Science, Yale University, and Harvard Medical School, among others. These collaborations encompassed the design and synthesis of neuro- and geronto-protectors, as well as cognition enhancers. Professor Tkachenko earned his Ph.D. in Organic and Radiochemistry from Moscow State University, where he subsequently served as Associate Professor. He has authored over 150 scientific publications and more than 100 patents in the US, Japan, and Russia.
ALEXANDER KHVAT, Ph.D. Senior Director, Chemistry
Prior to joining ChemDiv, Dr. Khvat held the positions of Senior Research Scientist at the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute for Pharmacology and Therapy of Endocrine Disorders and Post-Doctoral Research Scientist at the University of Nottingham, UK. He has a nine year track-record in custom synthesis and spectroscopic investigations of organic compounds including completion of over fifty custom and medicinal chemistry projects with major pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Dr. Khvat has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Kharkov State University and is the author of 26 scientific papers and 20 patents.
VASILY KAZEY, Ph.D. Director, Translational R&D
Prior joining Chemdiv in 2004 Vasily Kazey was a visiting scientist at Justus-Liebig University (Giessen, Germany). Since joining the company he held the positions of Senior Scientist, Head of HTS lab and Head of Lead Discovery Department. Currently Vasily Kazey also leads ChemDiv's IACUC. Dr. Kazey has a PhD in Biochemistry from Moscow Scientific Center of Neurology. He is the author of 6 scientific papers.
